If you could own one rod |

you really couldn't afford or would spend the money on, what would it be? I could probably afford to buy an FE Thomas Browntone but wouldn't spend a
couple of grand on a rod. I usually max out at $1000.00... but do love that rod.

Well, as a hourly wage working stiff I'd probably slowly collect a few beat up Grangers of various vintages from various sources and eventually barter out
a deal with Tapermaker to bring the one intact 3/2 blank back to original equipment status in exchange for the other couple of Grangers with issues. Then
I'd end up with a fine fishing and looking 2nd era 8642 Favorite with NS slideband reel seat and both Dennis and I would be happy happy guys. And he will
likely be handing me the rod at Camp Sherman on the Metolius in July. It isn't a FE or EW or EP/JP but I've fished it for years with an Orvis grip and
aluminum screw seat and love it dearly. Now I'll love it even more.

After all my wanderings, and if I stayed in he East, it would be an 8 2/2 Browntone, light trout. If I were lucky enough to retire West- an 8.5 Browntone, 6
weight or so. Reminds me of anything that is truly valuable in the world - beautiful and functional with a great story behind it.
