Sulphurs - ties? |

|
The sulphurs seem to hold on for some time here in the Mid-Atlantic. Do you have a particular tie that you hold dear. I just enjoy a Thorax tie generally -
amazing watching a streambred in a highly pressured stream take it with confidence. Seems to work for me. I like how even in July a #14 Thorax tie will still
be received quite well in the riffles - happy that those larger Cahills chime in later.

On smaller PA waters I've done well with a Comparadun tie with a few strands of Antron as a trailing shuck. Bigger waters there I like a Klinkhammer tie,
also with a trailing shuck to mimic a crippled emerger. On these I use CDC as a post for bright light and a yellow foam post for improved visibility early and
late.
Mistakes are the Wellspring of Wisdom. The trick is to not make a fatal one. |

I've never tied Sulphurs but have always had some in my box in sizes 14-20, I've found the 18's and 20's brought the best results and these
were simple dry flies......

Biot bodied thorax tie with either a Zelon or CDC wing post; sometimes standard hackle, other times a parachute. I also do pretty well with a biot bodied CDC
winged emerger with amber Zelon shuck. I've also found a touch of orange in the thorax ups the take rate substantially. 16 has always been the starting
point, but if refused, often an 18 brings a take.

I find a Yellow Humpy or Blond Wulff works as good as any and floats much longer .

I like comparaduns and sparkle duns (a comparadun with a trailing antron shuck). Seem to cover emergers, duns and spinners
