Excellent... yes, will get the best hackle for some dun variants. Years ago, a veteran who really had a way on the stream used a variant that looked like an oversized red quill. Excellent throughout the summer.I do know that Wright especially felt that the GFV was especially good at dusk for browns in the Neversink. I also like the way that the curve is easy to execute and you can shoot them under trees forcefully and they still land softly. I really like to envision Hewitt doing that on his water as Atherton and Sparse described the action. Soft rods, light silk, and large Hewitt spiders.
Will try Wright's idea of trimming the bottom 1/4 of hackle so a variant sits with more realism.
